TWO BLOCKS EAST OF RUSSELL
An exhibition of stringed musical instruments, autoharps,cellos, violins,ukeles, banjos, acoustic and electric guitars dissembled and reconfigured, painted, carved,decoupage, by over thirty motorcity artists, several of these individuals have performed music in groups such as DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, PIRANHAS, BOGUE, SNAKE OUT, BIG CHEIF, LARVAL, RUINERS, CORONADO'S, GORIES and THE DETROIT WHEELS
Also participating is the man responsible for the custom painted guitar used by BROTHER WAYNE KRAMER in the legendary MC5, ROBIN SUMMERS who early on was associated with the design/graphics of a small magazine from the CASS CORRIDOR, CREEM. GARY GRIMSHAW and CARL LUNDGREN known for designing the much sought after posters and postcards for the sixties venue GRANDE BALLROOM are also contributing work.
Metal fabricators RON FINCH, LEN VON SPEEDCULT, JEFF EVARTS collide steel and wood creating hybrid constructs. HERMAN WEEMS the man behind the graphics on the TEMPTATIONS classic MOTOWN album PSYCHEDELIC SHACK will be showing as well.
Opening night reception will have performances by recording artists DALE BEAVERS (DALE HAWKINS, KENNY BROWN & JUNIOR KIMBROUGH) ARAN RUTH (SIRENS, OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY) AND MATTHEW SMITH (VOLEBEATS, NATHANIEL MAYER). For info call 248-924-0298
